Life pushes forward in this new millenium for better or for worse...I'm reminded of Joni Mitchells "California"...

Sitting in a park in Paris France, reading the news and it sure looks bad

They won't give peace a chance, that was just a dream that some of us had...

That was about thirty years ago and here we are in the midst of yet another war (or two) and on the brink of losing democracy at home, incarcerating people without due process, and perhaps all the while rendering a slow death to this lovely ball of blue we're spinning around on. I'm a very positive person generally speaking but I can't hide my head in the sand and think these dire issues are just going to correct themselves on their own. We live in a fear based society and are becoming more isolated by the minute. Media conglomeration filters the news and serves it up to the American consumer. Dissenting voices are silenced or ridiculed as being unpatriotic. The Patriot Act is unpatriotic in the context of the Constitution. The executive branch power grab is unprecedented...I can only hope and pray that the pendulum has swung as far to the right as it can and sanity will once again be acheived. It's easy to feel helpless but we truly do have a voice...individually and collectively. I encourage everyone to question authority and do whatever small part we can to initiate change and make this country what it once was and what it could be again. A beacon of hope in a world starving for light and love...Here are some recent song lyrics...

Sick and Tired

I’m sick and tired of all the lies, the countless crimes of compromise

I’m sick and tired of all you say and do

It’s us or them, its me and you, separate and conquer too

Double standards, standard fare for you

I don’t like how you spend my money, torture isn’t very funny

Surveillance just ain’t my cup of tea

Peddling fear and paranoia better go out and hire a lawyer

If I sing this song you’ll be coming after me

In light of the course our government has chosen post seems more critical than ever for artists and musicians to voice our opinions through our art but also in everyday here we go...After the horrific events of 911, compassion and good will from around the world was bestowed upon America. Unfortunately the powers that be in DC squandered the opportunity to open new channels of communication around the world and have ultimately succeeded in alienating the US from more countries than ever before. Lets not forget that Bush-Cheney didn't exactly ride in on an electoral mandate...The conservative leaning Supreme Court in a 5-4 vote decided who won...Not you and I...Back to 911 and squandered opportunities...I however have no doubt they they seized the opportunity to fast forward their resource driven agenda and play upon the fears of the American public...Back when George Sr. was president and at the height of the Iran Contra hearings i wrote a song called Fabrication...a snippet:

Fabrication of the facts...counterpoint and counter attack
The bending of reality...a portrait of duality
Fudging lines then spewing rhymes that ring of greed and compromise
Bartering conscience as it withers away...descending in the growing day

They don't really care...can't even see the faces of despair
They only see what they want to see and disregard the rest
It's time we shake the vultures from the nest

Well... we shook and had an eight year break from the they have grabbed power once again and are using it to rewrite terms of civil liberties at home and in terms of military engagement/resource procurement abroad. First strike engagement against those deemed to have weapons of mass destruction...It's an insane policy even for this religous gunslinger from Texas. The arrogance of the current administration is apalling. The actions in Iraq have succeeded in alienating the US from traditional allies and deepening the hatred of our country by those already suspect of US policy abroad. Might is right...IS WRONG...some links: peace...jon

Sunday Herald - 15 September 2002
Bush planned Iraq 'regime change' before becoming President
By Neil Mackay
------------------------------------------------------------------------A SECRET blueprint for US global domination reveals that President Bush and his cabinet were planning a premeditated attack on Iraq to secure 'regime change' even before he took power in January 2001.
The blueprint, uncovered by the Sunday Herald, for the creation of a 'global Pax Americana' was drawn up for Dick Cheney (now vice- president), Donald Rumsfeld (defence secretary), Paul Wolfowitz (Rumsfeld's deputy), George W Bush's younger brother Jeb and Lewis Libby (Cheney's chief of staff). The document, entitled Rebuilding America's Defences: Strategies, Forces And Resources For A New Century, was written in September 2000 by the neo-conservative think-tank Project for the New American Century (PNAC).
The plan shows Bush's cabinet intended to take military control of the Gulf region whether or not Saddam Hussein was in power. It says: 'The United States has for decades sought to play a more permanent role in Gulf regional security. While the unresolved conflict with Iraq provides the immediate justification, the need for a substantial American force presence in the Gulf transcends the issue of the regime of Saddam Hussein......

Transcript of Tim Robbins speech at the National Press Club in DC 4/15...

The Bush regime shows its true colors and priorities...devoid of any appreciation for art and culture...Hans Blix is on the right track in NOT trusting the US and Britain to search for WMD's...the only weapons of mass destruction seem to be the ones we dropped on Iraq...just ask the millions without food water and electricity...

I wrote this song in 1989...

Authority in Question

Authority in question, the masters of deception
Coming into view...
Over on the corner, underneath the freeway
The theory trickles down...

It trickles like a sewer, for the greater not the fewer
On any given day...
The middle class dissolving, pistols keep revolving
On the streets of the USA

What will it take to awaken a people?
To the dreams that this country was founded upon
And insist that our voices be heard...
We’ve got a responsibility, we owe it to humanity

Barrels full of bloodshed, reflect upon the policies
Of the intelligence community...
Talk about misnomers, waving their diplomas
From inside the barrel of a gun

The unfortunate recipients, of these strings attached democracies...
Protecting the interests of a few
The stakes are getting higher, the fanning of the fire
We can hear the bubbling of the brew

A who's who in the Bush oiligarchy and how they will all play a part in carving up the spoils in Iraq...

Weapons of Mass Destructions...let's review:

What they said about weapons of mass destruction:
“If we know Saddam has weapons of mass destruction — and we do — does it make any sense for the world to wait to confront him?” “It (Iraq regime) possesses and produces chemical and biological weapons. It is seeking nuclear weapons . . . we know that the regime has produced thousands of tons of chemical agents, including mustard gas, sarin nerve gas, and VX gas”
George Bush, October 7, 2002

“We are dealing with a very real threat today, that of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction”
Geoff Hoon, March 10, 2003

“His (Saddam Hussein’s) regime has large, unaccounted-for stockpiles of chemical and biological weapon sand he has an active program to acquire and develop nuclear weapons”
Donald Rumsfeld, January 20, 2003

“Every statement I make today is backed up by sources, solid sources. These are not assertions. What we’re giving you are facts and conclusions based on solid intelligence.
“In fact, they (Iraqi regime) can produce enough dry biological agent in a single month to kill thousands upon thousands of people. “Saddam Hussein has never accounted for vast amounts of chemical weaponry: 550 artillery shells with mustard, 30,000 empty munitions, and enough precursors to increase his stockpile to as much as 500 tons of chemical agents. If we consider just one category of missing weaponry, 6,500 bombs from the Iran-Iraq war. . . Our conservative estimate is that Iraq today has a stockpile of between 100 and 500 tonnes of chemical-weapons agent. Even the low end of 100 tonnes of agent would enable Saddam Hussein to cause mass casualties across more than 100 square miles of territory, an area nearly five times the size of Manhattan”
Colin Powell, address to the UN Security Council, February 5, 2003

“It is right (going to war) because weapons of mass destruction, chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, are a real threat to the security of the world and this country”
Tony Blair, House of Commons, January 15, 2003

“What I believe the assessed intelligence has established beyond doubt is that Saddam has continued to produce chemical and biological weapons, and that he has been able to extend the range of his ballistic missile program
His (Saddam Hussein’s) military planning allows for some of the WMD to be ready within 45 minutes of an order to use them.”
Tony Blair, Foreword to Iraq “dossier”
